Trendy Cooking in Fort Lauderdale
Ham made easy for the holidays
Ham is really good for the holidays if it is cooked right. The nice sweetness of the ham will melt in you mouth and the smells that emanate from the oven while its cooking will drive anyone crazy waiting for dinner. When you have friends and family in the kitchen while you are trying to cook the ham means you are doing something right and it is a compliment to your cooking ability. Everyone bakes their ham different but I’ve seen hams cooked 2 ways and both ways are nice and juicy and fall apart when you try to carve the meat.
One way is to wrap the ham in bacon to keep the outside of the ham moist and tender. The bacon adds some flavor to the ham but it mostly is there to keep the ham from drying out while it is baking. After you line the ham with bacon, then open a can of pineapple rings and place them on the ham with toothpicks. The pattern of the rings is not important but the pineapple is. The pineapple adds the sweetness to the ham while it bakes slowly. The natural juice of the pineapple is almost all sugar when you cook it. Once all of the flavors bake together for 6 hours, the end result is one of the most delicious pieces of meat you will have for the holidays.
The other way I have seen hams cooked is almost the same. In this way, you need to make a sweet rub to rub all over the ham before you put it into the oven to bake. The rub consists of brown sugar, minced garlic, and some pineapple juice. Mix all of these ingredients together but do not put too much pineapple juice into the rub because you want a rub not a liquid you can pour over the ham. The last thing you add to the ham is orange slices to protect the outer layer of the ham. With this way you will need to baste the ham every 2 hours while it is in the oven.
The above is just one of my many oecipees, hope you enjoyed reading it.
